Talbot’s 10-goal third quarter was the catalyst for their 105-point win over Royal Park on Saturday, giving the Hawks and new coach Phil Crouch their first win.

The Hawks were unable to get their kicking boots on early. They kicked two goals from eight shots in the first quarter, while Bushy managed a goal to sit just 11 points behind at the first change.

A further two goals to one in the second quarter saw Talbot leading by 20 points at the main break, although a plucky Royal Park were still in it despite the Hawks’ general dominance in front of goal.

The Hawks put it on together in a devastating third quarter burst, kicking 10.2 to Bushy’s 1.2 to establish a 74-point lead at the final break.

A five-goal to nil final quarter put the icing on the cake for the Hawks as they were able to get their season back on track.

A consistent team performance was led by Jayson Atkins, who kicked four goals to lead all comers, while Nathan Bond, Trent Barras, Darcy Osborne, Chevy Elliott and Daniel Romeo were also named in the best.

It’s been a tough start to the season for Bushy, with three losses by 100 points or more, but Lachlan Bates continued his good start to the season, while Rhys Egan, Rhys Wagstaff, Mark Ashmore and Archer Patterson were also named in their best players.
