Clunes’ Tess Brady was one of five women inducted onto the Hepburn Shire Council’s Heather Mutimer Honour Roll last week, chosen for their contribution to the shire and progressing women’s causes.
The honour roll was established in 2005 to pay tribute to women in the shire whose contribution, courage and examples have led to significant change for women, with the most recent inductees announced on International Women’s Day (March 8).
Dr Brady was named alongside other Hepburn residents Anneke Deutsch, Joyce Orr, Joee Aganetti-Fraser and Marie Magdalen Lewis (posthumous).
Hepburn Shire mayor Brian Hood said the inductees were worthy recipients who had jointly made a considerable impact on the shire, from the 1930s right through to today.
“These local leaders are an inspiration to everyone. It is incredibly gratifying to recognise them and the contribution they have made to our shire and beyond,” he said.
“We are incredibly proud to be able to acknowledge and celebrate their efforts. I congratulate and thank each of the inductees on behalf of our community.”
Dr Brady has been a driver of the change in the Clunes community, working for two decades participating in many local groups, and actively mentors and encourages other women to back their own visions and dreams.
Dr Brady was one of the driving forces behind the annual Clunes Booktown Festival, and received the Life Activities Clubs Victoria and Henry Carus & Associates Senior Achievement Award at the Victorian Regional Achievement and Community Awards in 2017.
She is also a member of Clunes community group Attitude: Ageing Well in Clunes, created to close the gap left after the town’s senior citizens club closed in 2019.
