The Maryborough Highland Society’s Nick Weaver has been named a finalist for a state-wide Club Person of the Year Award.
Community Clubs Victoria recognise the success and community service of clubs across the state each year, with the Highland Society historically performing well at the awards, bringing home a number of Outstanding Community Service awards, among others.
Mr Weaver was nominated for his involvement in organising the recent Full Monty event, raising over $42,000 for the Maryborough District Health Service’s oncology unit.
Mr Weaver said it was humbling to be named a finalist for the award, acknowledging the team around him.
“It’s great to be acknowledged for the work we do with fundraising in the community, but it is a team effort,” he said.
“Without the support of family, friends and work colleagues, we wouldn’t be able to achieve what we have.”
The Highland Society has been a frequent winner of the Community Clubs Victoria Community Service Award as well as a swag of others, which Mr Weaver said was a reflection of the club’s commitment to community.
“All of the awards we’ve received in the past are community-based awards, they recognise what we give back and how we support this community,” he said.
“We’re pretty proud of what we do here, we’re professional about it and give back as much as we can.”
Award winners will be announced on July 29 as part of a gala dinner in Melbourne.
