The Andrews Labor Government and Worksafe are teaming up to promote and celebrate the role of farmers who are involved in sport.

The initiative is designed to promote the importance of safety on farms, with three agricultural workers losing their lives so far in 2023.

Victorians can now nominate someone who is involved in both the agricultural sector and their football netball club for a chance to win $10,000 for safety upgrades for both the winner’s farm and the representative club.

Monthly finalists will also be announced from May to July, with the winner to be announced on August 21. Local clubs of the monthly finalists will receive six footballs and six netballs.

The nomination period is open until July 26, with Victorians urged to nominate at countryclubhub.com.au.

Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said it was important for farmers to be recognised for their community impact, both on the field and on the farm.

“From Wedderburn to Skipton, and everywhere in between, our farmers are an integral part of our community. It’s important their safety is a priority,” she said.

“Footy’s Favourite Farmer is about recognising the contributions of our farmers both out at the farm and at our local clubs – with the opportunity to improve safety at both.

“All you need to do is say, in 50 words or less, why your nominee deserves to be Footy's Favourite Farmer in 2023.”
