Clunes’ third home game in succession will see them looking to bounce back this week as they host Colts Phelans, with the winner set to move to equal footing with ladder-leading Laanecoorie Dunolly on the one-day table.

Clunes were no match for Maryborough last week with the ball, as their 117 proved to not be enough to defend against the Owls, who were in top nick when it came time for them to bat.

Things were looking positive when Mitchell Coppick and Ashley Gunn were able to take the Magpies to 2/83, but Gunn’s removal off the bowling of man-of-the-match Tom Hart sparked an eventual collapse, in which they lost their final eight wickets for just 34 runs.

They will be looking to avoid a repeat situation against a Colts Phelans team that — for the large part of the season — has been impressive.

Colts were faced with a reasonably similar situation to Clunes last week — only this time it was while they had the ball. From 3/94, however, a devastating spell from the likes of Matt Scott and Richard Clark ensured they were able to take their last seven wickets for just 15 runs, and finish off the great start that Ben Stubbings made with the ball when he took 4/29.

In response, Colts never looked worried with the bat, and Rhys Egan was able to finish things off with a quickfire 43 to help them chase down the Crows’ 109 in just 21 overs.

This will be the first time both teams have met since the one-day semi-final last season, a game that Clunes were able to win, by chasing down 156 with five balls to spare.

Both teams will fancy their chances of winning, with Colts improving their bowling stocks this season with the arrivals of Scott and Callum Watts, while Ed Foreman has contributed in a big way with the bat.

There’s also been multiple changes at Clunes, but they will still be looking for Mitchell Coppick, who top-scored with the bat last week, as well as Mark Allen to ensure that Clunes can set the standard early on in their innings.
