The top four was shaken up again on the weekend, with Talbot entering the race for a premiership, while the battle for a top two spot heats up.

MKM V Talbot

An incredible 112 not out from Jack Kenden helped salvage the Yabbies from 3/32 to a 184-run victory over MKM.

After a solid start which saw the Yabbies make 21 without loss, the Mill were able to take 3/11, with the wickets of Jye Kenden, Isaac Vlcek and Karl Gunther falling in quick-succession.

But an 88-run fourth-wicket stand, and 114-run sixth-wicket partnership helped the Yabbies make 6/249 off their 40 overs.

Kenden’s 112 was well-supported by Jorde Bux, who made 78, but was run-out in order to preserve Kenden’s chances of a century.

In response, it was Jag Searle that tore through the Mill’s top order, finishing with 5/20 off seven overs as they were bowled out for 65.

Craig Horner provided the most resistance, finishing as their top scorer with 12.

Clunes V Colts Phelans

Clunes incredible eight-run victory over Colts Phelans came in the form of some unlikely heroes, keeping them in the frame for a home final.

From 0/22, things quickly looked very grim for the Magpies when they then proceeded to lose eight wickets for just 27 runs to be in all-sorts at 8/49.

However, an incredible 71-run stand between Joshua Dunn and Dean Whitehouse saw the Magpies put together an innings where they could at least defend a total, with Dunn finishing on 44, and Whitehouse 20, as the Magpies were eventually bowled out for 123.

Colts had three bowlers take three wickets each, with Patrick Pritchard taking 3/7 off two overs, while David Forde took 3/17 off five overs and Kane Shepherd took 3/37 off his eight overs.

After a shaky start in response, Colts looked reasonably comfortable when they were sitting at 4/78.

However, the wicket of the top-scoring Gary Wagstaff for 37 helped change the state of the game for Clunes, with Brett Coon then coming on and taking an incredible hat-trick with the score on 97, leaving them with just one wicket to defend.

Ethan Chaplin, who finished on 29 not out, almost single-handedly guided Colts to the 124 they were chasing, but ran out of partners with just nine runs required.

Avoca V Carisbrook

Carisbrook flexed their muscle in the best possible response to their loss against Colts Phelans, taking a 151-run victory against Avoca.

The top order did a large majority of the damage for Brook, with Martin Mark (37), Cole Harris (23) and William Coutts (top scorer with 53) helping guide Carisbrook to 9/203 off their 40 overs.

Jason Hunt and Mathew Drummond were excellent with the ball, taking 3/38 and 3/36 respectively off their eight overs.

In response, the Bulldogs were simply no match.

Although Nathan Lester and Mathew Drummond provided some solid resistance, scoring 16 and 11 respectively to help take the Bulldogs from 2/1 to 2/34, they soon lost 6/3 to have any chance of catching their target ruined, before eventually getting bowled out for 52 off just 14.1 overs.

Cole Harris was the chief destroyer for Brook, taking 5/17 off seven overs, including a spell of four wickets without conceding a run.

Nick Broad was also handy, taking 3/26 off six overs.

The result means that Carisbrook now sit just three points behind Colts Phelans with a superior percentage, while Avoca’s spot in the top four has been taken away by Talbot, with a big blow to their percentage to boot.

Maryborough V Natte Yallock

It was a thriller at Princes Park as Natte Yallock dealt a big blow to Maryborough’s chances of playing finals in the last over of the game.

The Swans have left their run too late, but with victories over Clunes and the Owls in the last two weeks, they’ve certainly shaken up the finals race in recent weeks.

A perfect start helped their cause, with Zac Mortlock taking the wicket of Bradey Tranter with the very first ball of the game.

But eventually, Maryborough started to work into the game, with the innings hinging on the bat of Marc Cassidy.

Cassidy completely anchored the Owls’ innings, playing some good shots en route to 96 not out, which included 12 fours, which eventually guided the Owls to 7/162 off their 40 overs.

Alan Streeter was the pick of the Swans bowlers, taking 2/24, while Mortlock took 2/27.

Maryborough looked to get off to a good start when the wickets of Ben Williams and Ryan Weir were taken to leave Natte in a little bit of trouble at 2/23. But a 63-run partnership between the Mortlock brothers, Zac (59) and Trent (33) saw the Swans take back control of the game.

Handy contributions of 24 from Daniel Vadala and 14 from Stephen Ross helped the Swans finish on 8/167 off their 40 overs.

Tranter shrugged aside his first-ball wicket with the bat to keep the Owls in the game with the ball, finishing with 3/31.

Round 13

With three rounds remaining, just six points seperate the top three.

Clunes will be looking to keep in touch with the top two when they host Avoca. The Bulldogs will need everything to go right from here to be any chance of playing finals after their loss last week, while if they lose, the top four will be locked in.

Colts Phelans will look to maintain top spot on the ladder when they host MKM at Jubilee Oval.

Talbot now control their own destiny in terms of playing finals, and can secure a spot if they beat Beaufort and Avoca lose to Clunes.

Maryborough are still in finals contention, but only by the barest of margins, leaving absolutely no room for error this week. However, they play a Carisbrook team that are looking to take advantage of any slip-up Colts Phelans have from here as they look to return to the summit of the ladder.

Natte Yallock will have the bye with Laanecoorie Dunolly’s forfeit.
