Goalkicking will be on the agenda at Natte Bealiba this week, as the Swans could only muster 10 goals from 36 scoring shots in their win over Royal Park.

Nevertheless, it was a win that saw the Swans move into the top four at Navarre’s expense, with the winning margin enough to see them take pole position for the last spot in the top four.

Natte peppered the goals early on, but could only kick one goal from eight scoring shots. In comparison, Royal Park took full use of their opportunities in front of the big sticks, kicking one goal to stay in touch, trailing by seven points at the first change.

An extraordinary second quarter saw the Swans constantly look to add to the scoreboard, but could only do so by kicking seven behinds, while Royal Park remained scoreless. For just the second time all season, both teams went goalless for the entire quarter — the other occasion coming when the Swans and Dunolly went goalless in the opening term of their round one clash.

All in all, it made for the unusual half time scoreline of the Swans leading 1.14 (20) to 1.0 (6).

After the break, the Swans finally started to hit the scoreboard with intent, kicking four goals from 10 scoring shots, while holding Bushy to one goal as they increased their lead to 37 points.

The final quarter saw the Swans add another five goals to double their tally for the day, while Bushy managed a further goal.

Austin McKenzie was best on ground for Natte, with Jye Mortlock, Kurt Mortlock — who led all comers with three goals, Aaron Hayes, Callum Harte and Toby Beavis also playing well for the Swans.

For Royal Park, Matt Walker, in his 150th game for the club, was a standout, as was Declan Wagstaff, Luke Relouw, Samuel Ploeger, Mark Ashmore and Jacob Rollason, who kicked two of the Tigers’ three goals.
