Mount Alexander Shire Council has prepared an issues and opportunities paper to generate discussion and input from the community about planning for future housing in Maldon and Newstead.

The issues and opportunities paper covers what council know about the changing housing needs in Maldon and Newstead, and identifies the opportunities and constraints for future residential development in these towns.

Feedback heard during the consultation is to help inform the preparation of a housing and neighbourhood character strategy for Maldon and Newstead. This will lead to changes to the Mount Alexander Planning Scheme, including policy and land use zones.

Mount Alexander Shire’s Loddon Ward councillor Matthew Driscoll said the community’s input in the project is an important step in developing the strategy.

“Council is dedicated to exploring ways we can help to facilitate appropriate housing within our towns,” he said.

“We’d like to hear from the community about the type of housing they’d like to see in to meet future needs, and what is special and unique about the character of their neighbourhood.”

More information is available on council’s website at www.shape.mountalexander.vic.gov.au

Drop-in information sessions are also running at old Bank Corner in Maldon on Thursday, June 22 between 3 and 5 pm or on Wednesday, July 5 from 4 to 6 pm at the Newstead Rural Transaction Centre.
