Junior presentation night run and won
The Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League (MCDFNL) has run their junior presentation night, with a host of clubs’ best youngsters recognised for their stellar efforts on the football field and netball courts in 2024.
The count was hosted on Monday night at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club.
The 11 and under netball count, the first of the night, was arguably the closest count, given that the winner wasn’t decided until the final vote card.
It was there that Dunolly’s Isabella Antolini polled three votes to overtake Navarre’s Sunday Kongor to win by two votes, with Antolini polling 30 votes and Kongor 28.
In the under 11.5 football count, an incredible two-horse race between Newstead’s Will Garsed and Avoca’s Jarrod Collicoat was decided in favour of Garsed with one round to spare.
Garsed polled 45 votes to take victory, with Collicoat runner-up with 41 votes in a runaway count.
The 13 and under netball was the closest count by votes, but Carisbrook’s Amali Kerville was able to take an unassailable lead with one round to spare.
Kerville scored 35 votes to hold out Newstead’s Scarlett Ramsey and Dunolly’s Mia Schodde, who tied for second with 34 votes.
The 15 and under netball count was won by Natte Bealiba’s Chelsea Ross, scoring 27 votes to win from Lexton’s Charlize Kennedy by three votes.
In the under 14.5 football vote count, it was Carisbrook’s Harvey Rumpff who took home the best and fairest, scoring 37 votes to win from Natte Bealiba’s Will Jardine, who was runner-up on 30 votes.
The 17 and under netball count was decided in the last round, with Maldon’s Tiffany Williams able to take the title home with 38 votes, while Harcourt’s Tegan McKay was runner-up with 34 votes.
In the under 17.5 football vote count, Carisbrook’s Brian Shafik-Eid take the best and fairest home with 25 votes.
Maldon’s Callum Buchanan finished second on 23 votes, but was ineligible due to suspension, which left Navarre’s Jacob Martin to take home the runner-up best and fairest trophy with 22 votes.
