Laanecoorie Dunolly can secure their spot in next Saturday’s A grade one-day grand final if they can defeat Clunes.

They will fancy their chances of being able to do so at True Blue Floors Oval, since they were able to beat the Magpies by a comfortable 30 runs last month in their T20 game.

The big issue for Laane has been being able to complete their games. They’ve had three games called off due to rain, and in one of them, they were just 28 runs away from completing victory against Beaufort.

However, they’ve been in impressive form nevertheless and still have an imposing squad that looms as the team to beat.

Samit Gohil has settled in extremely well, averaging an even 100 from his two innings thus far, while Tom Hannett has also been very handy with the bat, averaging 45 for the season.

Meantime, their bowling lineup has been able to strike at perfect times, while not necessarily as prolific as other lineups such as Colts Phelans.

Alex Sutton, Joe Lovel and Brady Williams leads the way with four wickets each, with Sutton taking 4/17 in his first game for the season two weeks ago.

Clunes currently sit fourth on the table, but they would have been in the frame to qualify had they been able to beat Colts Phelans last week.

Instead, they are left to rue falling from 1/101 to be all out for 141, especially after the start that was given to them by Anthony Ellis, who top scored with 56. Colts Phelans took all the momentum from taking nine wickets for just 40 runs and translated it into a strong batting performance, scoring an eight-wicket win.

The match will be the first meeting between the two teams since their one-day grand final in March, a game where Clunes were bowled out for 69, with Laane taking their last eight wickets for just 26 runs.

Chief among the wicket-takers that day was Chris Lee, who took 3/7, while Liam Hurse took 2/11.

In response, Daniel Romeo and Mitchell Blackman guided Laane to a straightforward nine-wicket victory after just 11.4 overs.

The Laane powerhouse will contest another grand final if they can beat Clunes tomorrow.
