The 11th Laanecoorie Gold Bash will be underway in just a few days time, with a program of all things gold related to keep enthusiasts, hardcore prospectors and newbies alike entertained.

Taking place this Friday through to Sunday, the Laanecoorie Gold Bash is an annual event celebrating all things gold and sees enthusiasts travel from far and wide for the event.

Now in its 11th year, event coordinator Di Hodgson said she’s expecting upwards of 500 people to take part.

“We’re expecting about 500 people at this year’s event which is a good number, it’s on par with previous years,” she said.

“The committee likes to run off the idea that if it’s not broken, don’t fix it and whatever it is we’re doing, the success of the event shows that people like it.”

The weekend-long event will feature a number of guest speakers, gold tours, events and activities for the whole family as well as plenty of fun.

“People can expect to have a lot of fun — there are lots of prizes, tokens, treasure hunts, raffles, gold tours, an auction and a trivia night too,” Ms Hodgson said.

“Everyone is welcome to come along, it’s free entry so come and see what it’s all about.

“The Sunday is aimed at children and educating them on safety and getting into gold detecting.”

The Gold Bash is also a fundraiser for the Peter McCallum Cancer Foundation in honour of one of the event’s founders, Jim Stewart, who passed away from cancer in 2013.

Over the years the event has donated over $180,000 to the foundation, including some $41,000 donated last year.

The Laanecoorie Gold Bash will run from October 6 to 8 at the Laanecoorie Lakeside Park.
