Carisbrook played arguably their best game since their return to the Ballarat Football League Women’s competition when they came up against reigning premiers Redan on Sunday.
Although the final margin was 98 points, Redan were able to field a full team, while Carisbrook, according to team sheets, fielded 15 players.
The Lady Redbacks took it right up to Redan in the opening quarter, holding the Lions to three goals, but more importantly, kicking one of their own.
While the second quarter showed the difference between the two teams, with Redan kicking six goals, Carisbrook were still fighting hard.
They were rewarded with a second goal in the third quarter, while Redan added four more to extend the margin to 78 points in the last.
Much like the first quarter, Redan were able to kick three goals to finish off the game.
Considering the Lions were unbeaten, it was a terrific effort from the Lady Redbacks, showing that the team are heading in the right direction.
Anika Munn, Tara Kennedy, Grace Love, Olivia Butler and Tara Curtis were named in the best players for the day, with Munn and Bec Clark the goalkickers for the Lady Redbacks.
Meantime, the under 16 girls had an encouraging effort following their first win of the season last week, competing hard with the third-placed Storm.
Storm kicked two goals in the first quarter to open up a 12-point lead at the first break, and kicked another two goals in the second, but Carisbrook were also able to get on the board through Rhani Evans to keep the margin at 21 points at the long break.
Carisbrook fought hard again in the third quarter, restricting the Storm to just one goal to keep the margin at 28 points at the final change.
It was the last quarter which saw Storm break away, kicking three goals to no score to eventually take a 47-point win.
Tahlia Jordan, Maddison Smith, Remi Jardine, Tiani Jardine, Charlotte Metters and Memphis Hoober were named in the best players for Carisbrook.
Carisbrook will now look ahead to what is hopefully their last away game to start the season before the new rooms are delivered at their home ground, with the senior women playing against Darley this week.
The two teams met three weeks ago, with Darley taking a 207-point win, but on the back of last week’s effort, Carisbrook will be hoping to put in a similar performance this time around.
The under 16 girls will fancy their chances of taking their second win of the season when they play winless Lake Wendouree.
