A spirited start to the game saw the Lady Redbacks have their opportunities early on, but their two shots at goal went wide, while Bacchus Marsh were able to score two goals from five scoring shots to lead by 13 points at the first change.

The class of the Cobras was telling as they were able to score four goals to no score in the second term, with their cleanliness inside 50 doing the job and allowing them to lead by 37 points at the main break.

The third quarter was a good contest, with the Redbacks able to prevent the Cobras from generating good looks at goal, instead restricting them to just one goal from five scoring shots.

At the other end, Anika Munn was able to give the Redbacks their first goal of the day from a set shot, with the margin sitting at 41 points at the final change.

The Cobras scored the only two goals of the last term to increase the lead to 55 points, kicking 9.9 (63) to Carisbrook’s 1.2 (8).

Danae Every, Munn, Grace Brady, Julianne Baldock, Isabella Hoban and Olivia Butler were all named in the best for the Lady Redbacks.

The two teams will meet again in the second elimination final at Marty Busch Reserve on Sunday.

The big positive of the day for Carisbrook was the form of the under 16s, who took victory in their final game of the season and avoided the wooden spoon in the process with a 17-point win over East Point.

The Lady Redbacks ambushed the Dragons in the opening term with three goals to no score to lead by 18 points at the first change, and were able to increase their lead in the second term by scoring two goals to one to make the margin 22 points at half time.

The Dragons were able to win the second half by scoring the only goal, while Carisbrook managed three behinds, but it mattered not as the Lady Redbacks were able to savour the joy of a first win of the season.

Chloe Wyatt starred for the Lady Redbacks, kicking two goals in a best-on-ground performance, while Remi Jardine, Emme Johnson, Ava Bartlett — who also added two goals, Tori Taylor and Olivia Rogers completed the best players for Carisbrook.
