Talbot’s new London House cafe has thrown open its doors, serving up coffees and meals from today after a “fantastic” reception by locals and visitors last week.

The Talbot London House Cafe was soft launched last week and is now getting down to business, and owner Gerard Murphy said it’s already been a hit.

“The reception we got was fantastic — we got smashed the whole three days we opened,” he said.

“To keep it like that would be great.

“We had locals come in but we also had four couples who just happened to be driving around Talbot on their way home and dropped in. It was good to see there’s now somewhere for them to go.”

The cafe currently offers an all day menu including breakfast foods, pastas, curries, burgers and toasties, and Mr Murphy said plans are in the works to begin offering a dinner service.

“Eventually we’ll have more food on offer but we do have some growing pains we’re working through,” he said.

“The menu is a cafe menu, it’s not overdone or overpriced. Our mantra is to buy local produce as much as possible.

“We can’t offer dinner until we get a planning permit and a liquor licence, which could take up to three months.

“We’ll eventually be offering dinner on Saturday nights and once a month on a Friday night — we’ll also start opening on Thursdays.

“It’ll be a bit of fun. We want people to be able to bring their book in, have a coffee and stay as long as they like.”

Talbot London House Cafe is located at 42 Scandinavian Crescent, Talbot and is currently open 9 am to 4 pm Friday through to Sunday.
