A thrilling encounter at Lexton Reserve saw the Tigers get the better of the B.A Road Services Talbot Hawks by a point.

It was a game of swings and roundabouts, as both teams seemed to assume control at different stages, before the Tigers managed to have their noses in front right when it mattered most.

A fast start for Lexton saw them kick five goals in the opening quarter to the Hawks’ two to open up a 20-point lead at the first break.

A second-quarter power struggle followed, with the Hawks trying to get back into the game, while Lexton were trying to assume complete control, but were inaccurate in front of goal, kicking two goals from seven scoring shots. The Hawks fared a little better, kicking three goals from six scoring shots to reduce the lead to 16 points at the main break.

The third quarter belonged to Talbot, as they roared back into the game, kicking four goals to one to hit the front by the last change, leading by two points.

It was a struggle for both teams in the last quarter as they threw everything into getting the four points, with the Hawks enjoying some good looks at goal, but unable to make full use of them, kicking one goal and missing a further four, while Lexton were economical in front of goal for the first time since the opening quarter, kicking two goals.

When all was said and done, the Tigers were able to finish up with the lead, and took an important win in the context of their season, with a fascinating month of football seeing them line up against the Maryborough Giants, Carisbrook, Navarre and Newstead.

Pat Parr was key to the Tigers’ victory, kicking five goals, and was voted their best player, with Lochlan Pett, Jack Cuttler, Alex McLean, Luke Guelen and Josh Sargent providing a helping hand.

The loss was a blow for Talbot, who now face a brutal run in their schedule following their round four bye with Natte Bealiba, Trentham, Harcourt and Carisbrook all in succession.

Dylan Page, Adam Scott — who kicked six goals, Darcy Osborne, Trent Barras, Jude McGuire and Luke Kemp were all named in their best.
