Lexton took victory over the Maryborough Giants by 13 points at Hedges Oval in what was an entertaining game, moving up to fifth position in the process.

It was a game of swings and roundabouts as the Tigers’ accuracy proved to be the key difference maker, with the Giants having to wait another week for their first win.

It was a ho-hum start for the afternoon, with the Tigers kicking away to a 10-point lead in the opening quarter thanks to three goals to one.

But the game exploded into life in the second term, with the Giants putting together a six-goal burst in the second term to hit the front, while Lexton were still there courtesy of four goals of their own.

The third quarter was very comparable to the first term, with the Tigers again proving to be a bit more economical in front of goal, kicking three goals from four shots, while the Giants could only manage one from their four shots at goal. What it did mean, though, was that Lexton led by six points at the final change, despite having four fewer scoring shots.

In a tight final quarter, it was the Tigers that were able to hold down the ascendancy, kicking another three goals, while the Giants added two, taking away a 13-point victory.

Luke Arvidson was a standout for the Tigers, while Aiden Broughton, Pearce Antonio, Jaykeb Lench, Josh Sargent and Luke Guelen were also among the best, with Tyler Trickey kicking three goals, while Sargent and William Brand added two apiece.

For the Giants, Rhys Wagstaff was at his best, as was Lachlan Bates, Aiden Carter, Peter Wytkamp, Matt Walker and Archer Patterson, with Declan Wagstaff proving their most efficient forward with three goals.
