The Maryborough Regional Library is aiming to keep kids entertained and engaged these summer holidays, with a program offering prizes alongside the benefits of regular reading.
The library was selected to host a visit from well known audio book narrator, stand up comedian and BIG Summer Read ambassador, Stig Wemyss earlier this month, who entertained Maryborough Education Centre (MEC) primary students.
Maryborough Regional Library team leader Bec Clark said the event was also an opportunity to introduce students to the upcoming BIG Summer Read program at the local library.
“I am a part of the BIG Summer Read state wide working group so I was lucky to have the opportunity to get MEC involved as one of only six Victorian schools to host a visit from Stig,” she said.
“The BIG program begins on December 1 and runs through to January 31 with the intention of combating the summer slide.”
Those who sign up for the program and read a minimum of 10 books will go in the draw for local and state wide prizes.
Children aged between zero and 18 can participate. Independent and non-independent readers can log any book they read, that is read to them, or listened to as an audio.
To register for the program visit https://plv.beanstack.org, or visit the Maryborough or Dunolly libraries.
