“Our club is a little bit different to a normal camera club because of how social we are, we love to sit around and start talking about photography, but by the end we start talking about anything and everything.”
That is how Ron Gale described the Goldfield Image Makers Camera Club, a club where after 16 years he is now president and a life member.
The club was founded back in 1999 by Nola Tidyman and Adrian Cook, with the pair reinvigorating Mr Gale’s love for photography so much he drives from Bendigo to still be a part of the club.
“I got into photography when I was about 18 back in the old film days, I gradually moved out of photography until it became all digital because it was a whole lot easier,” he said.
“I love my photography, there are so many aspects to photography that anyone can enjoy.”
Mr Gale said the club is less about being keen photographers, and more about making life connections and memories in the local community.
“I have done the photos for Energy Breakthrough for the past 10 years and I love doing that, just seeing the kids having fun and being all excited is amazing,” he said.
“We have outings on the first Wednesday of every month and weekends away as a club which are great social experiences.”
The club is always looking for new members to join. Mr Gale said photography is a unique hobby that can intrigue anyone.
“If you have time on your hands and are looking for something to do, photography is a great hobby because no matter your interests you can involve it around photography,” he said.
“You can take your camera to the park, looking at the sunset, observing nature, watching sport and tell your own story through your pictures.
“We are very open to people joining at any level, you can join with an iPhone and no photography experience or a professional with quality gear.”
Goldfield Image Makers Camera Club treasurer Heather Bell, who has been a member for a decade alongside her husband Noel, said the club is a great way to meet new people.
“Everybody is welcome to come along and have a social time — it is not just about cameras and then you go home, we sit around and chat and get to know each other,” Ms Bell said.
“We all help and support each other, it is a great club that loves to spend time together.”
If you are interested in joining the club or getting involved, the club meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 7.30 pm at the Paul Tidyman Automotive showroom.
