HARCOURT 13.7 (85) def DUNOLLY 8.9 (57)
Harcourt have made it 30 wins in succession with a 28-point win over a gallant Dunolly at Harcourt Recreation Reserve.
This was an early test for the Lions, who had negotiated Carisbrook and Newstead with aplomb, while Dunolly were flying high early in the season.
The Eagles certainly had their chances in the first quarter, enjoying five scoring shots to four, but could only manage one goal, while the Lions kicked four goals straight to lead by 14 points at the first change.
An entertaining second quarter saw seven goals kicked as both teams traded blows. But the Lions seemed to have all the answers when Dunolly asked some good questions, and, after kicking four goals to three, extended their lead to 19 points.
A dour third quarter followed, with both teams looking to make their move, and just one goal was scored apiece, as Harcourt again won the quarter, extending their lead to 21 points at the last change.
The last quarter was much like the second, with another seven goals scored between both teams. But it would be the Lions who would eventually coast home, scoring four goals to three to eventually win by five goals.
Jed Rodda was the key difference-maker for the Lions, kicking four goals, and was rightfully voted best on ground by the Lions, while Jordan Gartside, Dan Chaplin, Kaleb McBride, Mark Noonan and Luke Anderson provided good support.
It was an encouraging effort by the Eagles, despite not getting the win, and they’ll be buoyed knowing they are right in the frame against quality opposition. They were driven by Seth Galvin, Bailey Wingrave, Lachlan Tranter, Bailey Goodwin, Jack Merrin and Mitchell Goodwin putting in good performances.
