Eighteen emerging leaders from across the Loddon Murray region began their journey in the 2024 Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program (LMCLP) on Friday, February 23.
Participants spent the day at the LaTrobe Arts Institute in Bendigo getting to know each other, sharing vulnerabilities and aspirations for their communities.
Now in its 26th year, the LMCLP has helped almost 600 graduates become more effective community leaders, with many of these people going on to support their fellow residents on community committees or within all levels of government.
“The 2024 LMCLP is supported by the Foundation of Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR), through funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund,” LEAD Loddon Murray executive officer Brett Thompson said.
Participants, sponsors, past graduates and guests gathered at Silks Functions at the Apiam Bendigo Racecourse for a celebratory launch following the orientation day.
“The first day of the LMCLP was a refreshing and humanistic intro, with a wonderful mix of diverse and interesting people,” recipient of the Samantha Bell Scholarship Solitaire Meerman said.
“I’m so excited to now sink into all the learning and experience community leadership in a new way.
Participants completing the program also work on developing a community project, with many of these concepts completed since the program was first held in 1998.
Participants will next meet for retreat one in March, hosted by the Central Goldfields Shire Council, which will focus on regional context.
