Local stamp fair returns

Following its success last year, the Maryborough Stamp Club has well and truly received its stamp of approval for its annual fair — doubling the number of stallholders for this weekend’s philatelic bonanza.

Set to take place tomorrow, the fair will offer something for everyone with 12 stallholders showcasing all things stamps, stamp history, coins and postal history to name a few.

The club’s Steve Greenwood said with an increased number of stallholders and a new event location at Mill House, this year’s fair is set to be a winner.

“We’re inviting everyone to come along and enjoy the Maryborough Stamp Club Fair,” he said.

“This is the first time we’ve had it at this venue which we’re looking forward to and with the increased number of stallholders, I’m sure we’ll have something for just about everyone.”

In addition to being able to purchase new stamps to fill out collections, the fair will also offer free valuations of individual stamps and collections.

“I think one of the most exciting parts about this event is that you never quite know what people are going to bring in,” he said.

“There are some very rare and unique items people have tucked away at home that you wouldn’t even think of until they walk in the door.”

Past events have yielded new members for the club, with Mr Greenwood welcoming any prospective members or residents interested in stamps to come along or get in touch.

“Maryborough is one of the few stamp clubs that has a growing membership but we’re always open to new members joining,” he said.

“Some of the new members we’ve had join in the last couple of years have amazing collections, including items considered quite rare — it’s amazing what people have.”

The Maryborough Stamp Club Fair will take place tomorrow, Saturday, October 26 at Mill House, located at 88-90 Burke Street, Maryborough. Catering will be provided.
