Celebrating resilience across the region, a day packed withuplifting live performances and activities is coming to the Lexton Community Hub next month.

As part of Music Victoria’s Live Music for Flood Recovery Program — an initiative created to support flood-affected areas in the aftermath of last year’s deluge — the Pyrenees Connection event will bring people together in Lexton on October 28 to showcase the community’s strength in the face of adversity.

A one-day affair, the family-friendly event is set to feature a number of musical shows and workshops, as well as a range of food options for patrons with a dedicated youth space, among other stalls.

The exciting line-up of performances will include big names like Bill Chambers and Marcus Cassells & The BAHA Collective, alongside newcomers, The Long & Short of It, deborahN, Brendan Scott, and Sarah Catania.

“We are overwhelmed with the positive response that we have been getting from the community and it’s all looking to be a very special [day],” event manager Loretta Agius said.

“Not only do we have such wonderful musical talent, we also have a day full of arts, crafts and workshops to suit everyone.

“[All of us] are particularly excited about the slide guitar workshop with Bill Chambers.”

Ms Agius said the event was a good opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate their connections.

“[I think people should attend the event] to connect with their family and friends and learn a new skill,” she said.

“In addition to Bill's slide guitar workshop we also have a music writing workshop, flower wreath and jewelry making workshops, a dedicated youth stage and kids arts and crafts as well — [there’s a lot to do together].

“Rural & Remote Mental Health (RRMH) will also be showcasing their Rural Minds program providing practical information that can help you, your family, friends and community to maintain and improve mental health and wellbeing.”

For more information about the event and to book free tickets or sign-up for a workshop visit www.pyreneeshideout.com.au/tickets — capacity is strictly limited so people are encouraged to register beforehand.
