Clunes Primary School students could soon benefit from a new outdoor play space, thanks to a donation following the Clunes Agricultural Show.
The school received a $5000 donation from the Historic Commercial Vehicle Club Australia’s Ballarat Branch (raised through the ag show) last week and will look to establish a space for gaga ball, which is a variant of dodgeball, before the end of the year.
Clunes Primary School principal Sonia Jardine said the donation would benefit the school’s 112 students.
“We value this so much,” she said.
“We’ve had students writing letters of persuasive text for multiple years saying they would love a gaga pit.
“We’ve never been able to afford that, but with this money we could afford to build one that would service our current, future and past students.
“We’re a health promoting school and this would benefit students’ physical wellbeing as well as their social skills, mental health, perseverance and so much more, it’s great.”
Historic Commercial Vehicle Club Australia’s Ballarat Branch treasurer Helen Berry said the Clunes Agricultural Show had always been about supporting the community.
She said the school was one of three organisations and charities to receive major $5000 donations.
“It’s not about just giving it to one group, the show has always been about supporting the community that supports it,” she said.
“Every time we have a show we pay for everything and whatever is left over, we donate.
“Donations like these help everybody in the community and that’s what we aim to do.”
