Naturalists are encouraging locals to get involved
1 min read

The Maryborough Field Naturalists Club want to see more locals get familiar with the district’s natural history.

According to the club, Maryborough has had a number of outstanding naturalists over the years however now, most of these people have passed on.

“Our region has remarkable geography, extensive birdlife and increasing marsupial numbers,” the club said in a statement.

“We encourage local people to get to know and understand our local bushland and the fauna which live within it.

“Former mayor, the late Fred Treble, used to express concern that so few local people ever thought about the fact that Maryborough was one of the few sizeable towns in the state surrounded by forest.”

The club, which is dedicated to building the community’s knowledge and understanding of the region’s natural history, is encouraging residents to get involved.

To spread knowledge of the region’s natural history, the club meets on the first Monday of each month with an excursion on the following Sunday. For further enquiries or to get involved, contact 0411 664 763 or 0408 653 799.
