Kai Lohmann was the first of Maryborough’s locals to play in the AFL this year after he earned selection to the Brisbane Lions’ Opening Round team.
Lohmann started as the substitute, but was activated for the second half after teammate Keidean Coleman suffered a season-ending knee injury.
While Lohmann had some nice moments, including six disposals and four marks throughout the second half, it wasn’t quite enough for Brisbane to get the win at the Gabba, as they blew a 46-point lead to lose by a point to Carlton.
The region’s other footy stars take to the field this weekend, with Jake Stringer, Nick Hind and Jack Ginnivan all likely to face each other when Essendon take on Hawthorn tomorrow at the MCG.
