Lohmann off to reigning VFL premiers
Former local Jake Lohmann will give himself the best opportunity to earn his way onto an AFL list to join younger brother Kai, signing with reigning VFL premiers Werribee for 2025.

Lohmann returns to Victoria after a year playing with both Brisbane in the VFL as well as Morningside in the Queensland AFL competition, where he was able to score a premiership medal in that competition, playing alongside former Berry Powell Medallist Tommy Horne.
Lohmann added to his 26 VFL games with Sandringham with a further six for Brisbane throughout the season, with a personal best of 21 disposals and a goal against Gold Coast in round six.
A return home to Victoria has yielded a big opportunity with Werribee, who broke through for their first VFL premiership in 31 years in September with a thrilling six-point victory over Southport.
Lohmann has also signed with Lake Wendouree as his home club for 2025, making a return after previously playing there in 2021, which was followed by two years at Maryborough in 2022 and 2023.
The Tigers have been a haven for mature-age players to earn list opportunities in the AFL in recent years since their status as a stand-alone club in 2018, with Shaun Mannagh earning himself an opportunity with Geelong thanks to a famous 2023 VFL grand final performance which yielded six goals, 28 disposals and the Norm Goss Medal in a losing cause.
In 2024, two Werribee VFL players were drafted, with Sydney picking up Riley Bice with pick 41, and Melbourne landing Aidan Johnson with pick 68, while captain, and J.J Liston Trophy winner Dom Brew will train with the Western Bulldogs in hopes of landing a spot on their list.
