Lohmann seeking grand final berth

Kai Lohmann’s hopes of a maiden premiership, as well as a maiden grand final appearance, are still alive after the Brisbane Lions took a thrilling semi-final clash with the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

Lohmann was pivotal to the result, kicking two goals from nine disposals, but perhaps more importantly, spotting key forward Joe Daniher for the match-winning goal assist.

The Lions trailed by as much as 44 points during the third term, before Lohmann kickstarted the comeback with a goal late in the third term.

Lohmann will look to make the grand final this week when he and the Lions play off against Geelong at the MCG on Saturday in a twilight preliminary final, with the winner to play off against either Sydney or Port Adelaide next week.

It was Port Adelaide’s win last Friday night which spelled the end of Jack Ginnivan’s attempts to become the third player in VFL/AFL history to win back-to-back premierships with two different clubs.

The Power were able to defeat Ginnivan and Hawthorn by three points in a thriller at the Adelaide Oval.

Ginnivan did at least play his part, kicking two goals from nine disposals as he did what he could to get the Hawks across the line.

Had the Hawks won the premiership, Ginnivan would have joined Jim Martin and Tom Fitzmaurice as the only players in the history of the VFL/AFL to have won consecutive premierships with two different clubs following his much-publicised trade from Collingwood to the Hawks in the 2023 off-season.
