Maryborough are ready for a season-defining fortnight with two winnable matches at home that will shape their finals aspirations.

The first of which comes this weekend against South Bendigo, a team that currently occupies fifth position, but sit just six points ahead of the Magpies.

For the large part of the season so far, the Magpies have been quite competitive, but had their toughest outing of the season last Saturday when a powerful Sandhurst team won by 60 goals.

In a season where a youthful Magpies team has taken the court, there were more changes made, with playing-coach Jordan MacIlwain now sitting out the rest of the season on the court.

In her place, under 17 player Abbey Nalder came into the team, and made her presence felt with a good performance against the Dragons, scoring 16 goals, forming a good goal circle dynamic with Keely Hare.

The midcourt fought hard against the Dragons, with Tori Chandler putting in a noteworthy performance, but the class of their opposition was too telling.

For Maryborough now, it’s a matter of whether they can make inroads against the Bloods, who had two quality games last season.

In their first meeting in round eight, the Bloods proved too strong, winning by 16 goals. Tali Chadwick and Ella Bartlett made their debuts for the Magpies, while Hare scored 37 goals.

The second meeting in round 17 saw the Magpies have their chances, but were unable to make inroads on South Bendigo, as they fell by 12 goals.

Hare again scored 37 goals, while Eliza Roughead and Chandler were the better players for the afternoon in what was a physical game.
