The Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League have announced their football and netball fixtures for 2023, with the honour of opening the season going to Maldon and Dunolly for their round two clash on Good Friday.

The Bombers will look to start their football and netball campaigns on a positive note with new coaches Damien Lock and Elizabeth Woodward at the helm, while the Eagles, after breaking their 11-season finals drought in 2022, will be looking to take the next step and become a contender.

Maldon will have a busy start to the season, as they’ll immediately follow the season opener with their meeting with Campbells Creek for the Peter Cole Cup in round one the following week, while Dunolly will make a trip to reigning A grade netball premiers Natte Bealiba.

Avoca will welcome Maryborough Rovers, and new co-coach Billy Mahony, to Avoca Public Reserve for their season opener, while reigning football premiers Harcourt will travel to Lexton for the opening game of their season.

Royal Park and Carisbrook will do battle at Hedges Oval for their opening round clash, while Trentham and Navarre will meet in a rematch of their senior football semi-final at Trentham Reserve.

Finally, Newstead and Talbot rounds out the round one clashes as they meet at Newstead Recreation Reserve.

The first grand final re-match will be held in round four, when Lexton host Natte Bealiba in a repeat of their A grade netball grand final, while a hotly anticipated re-match of the football grand final between Carisbrook and Harcourt will be played the following week at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve, following their two thrilling encounters last season.

Other games to watch include Avoca looking for revenge following their A grade preliminary final defeat against Natte Bealiba in round five, while local rivals Royal Park and Maryborough Rovers are set to do battle at Hedges Oval in round nine. Harcourt and Trentham will meet in round six, with both senior football meetings decided by just five points last season.

There will be three byes for teams during the season — the first of which will come during the King’s Birthday weekend on June 10, with the second to be on July 1 thanks to the school holidays bye. Finally, round 14 will see a split round, with the round one re-matches split across two weekends on July 29 and August 5.

Finals will commence on the weekend of August 26 and 27, with the grand final to be held on Saturday, September 16 at Princes Park.

Lexton will have the chance to avenge their A grade grand final loss to Natte in round five.
