It was heartbreak for Campbells Creek on Saturday, losing by one goal to Maldon as their 13-game winless run continues.
With Creek having won their previous encounter against the Dons, they would have fancied their chances of making it a double in 2023, but Maldon, for their part, have been in much-improved form over the last month, and the victory moves them up to 11th on the ladder for the time being.
The Dons got the jump by scoring 12 goals to nine in the opening term to take the lead, but Campbells Creek fought back in the second to close the gap to just one goal, after scoring 11 goals to nine.
Maldon took the third quarter and extended their lead by just one goal, scoring 10 goals to nine.
In what was practically a goal-for-goal affair all afternoon, Campbells Creek continued to ask the questions, but Maldon had all the answers, holding on by the barest of margins, scoring 11 goals to Creek’s 12.
It’s the fourth result decided by just one goal this season, with the Dons squaring the ledger in that department after losing to Dunolly on the opening day of the season.
Tayah Doyle scored 18 goals for Maldon, with Liz Woodward scoring 15.
For Campbells Creek, Lillie Wrigley scored 23 goals and Jordan Bagley 18.
