A 39-year-old man has been convicted and fined after a drunken altercation with a neighbour.

Alexander Scott fronted the Maryborough Magistrates’ Court last Thursday where he pled guilty to charges relating to an incident that took place a year ago.

Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Peter Clarke told the court that last year on January 15 at around 10 pm, Mr Scott went to a neighbouring house located on Tullaroop Road, Maryborough and ripped the driver’s side mirror off of his neighbour’s car.

The court heard that Mr Scott verbally harassed and grabbed the neighbour by the collar after he came outside the house to check on the disturbance.

Mr Scott’s defence lawyer told the court that alcohol might have played a part in the incident and that the accused has since relocated to Geelong and has had no contact with the victim.

Magistrate Russell Kelly convicted Mr Scott and gave him a fine of $400.
