Maryborough Golf Club welcomes the revamped June Classic over the King’s Birthday long weekend.

The competition has evolved from a 27-hole single event into a two-day, 36-hole aggregate Stableford event, a format change that promises exciting twists and increased participation.

The four-ball teams event will be an inclusive tournament, extend-ing invites to both male and female golf enthusiasts. As part of the revamped format, participants will have the flexibility of later starting times across the two-day extravaganza.

This innovative approach, a first for the tournament, will cater to teams willing to try their hand at the unique 36-hole event, as opposed to the conventional 18-hole game.

In the four-ball aggregate stableford event, teammates will work together, summing their stableford score for each hole to accumulate points. The team accumulating the highest points will emerge as the champions. Teams are self-selected, and anyone with a golf handicap is welcome to participate.

A total prize pool exceeding $1100 is up for grabs, ensuring competitors are duly rewarded for their performance. The organisers anticipate at least 40 teams of two, while the capacity extends to a total of 120 participants.

The Maryborough Golf Club is offering a package deal for participants: $50 for a team’s two-day participation, inclusive of afternoon tea, and $30 per day for those who can't commit to both days. Dinner bookings are highly recommended for the Saturday night, which includes live entertainment.

While the inaugural event in this new format has been two years in the making, unforeseen circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic and inclement weather have led to previous cancellations. This year, the organisers are optimistic that the event will proceed as planned, marking a new era for the June Classic.

Participants are encouraged to assemble in teams of two and secure their spots via the club’s website, accessible at https://tinyurl.com/3z9e7ca8. Alternatively, direct contact can be made to coordinators Dave Kerry (0439 613 424) or Wendy Carmody (0428 899 466) for booking arrangements.
