The early works stage on the $100 million Maryborough Hospital redevelopment is almost complete — expected to allow the health service to treat an extra 4000 patients each year when finished.
The early works have seen the Clarendon and Neill streets corner site cleared to make way for the new build, and more than 40 new off-street parking spaces are available in the car park north of the hospital.
Builders are currently creating an alternative access route to the Urgent Care Centre in preparation for when main construction starts, and the health service’s dental service is temporarily closed until mid-April as the dental team moves to into a new location above the Clarendon Medical Centre.
Family services Anglicare Victoria, the Centre of Non-Violence and The Orange Door network have moved to refurbished facilities in the former Health and Movement Centre off Florence Lane, while allied health services such as physiotherapy, exercise physiology, occupational therapy and some group programs have moved to High Street.
When completed, the hospital upgrade will deliver a new Urgent Care Centre, a 32-bed inpatient unit, two operating theatres and recovery spaces, and a day medical centre with imaging and pathology services.
There will also be new birthing suites ensuring more women can give birth in Maryborough, close to their family and loved ones.
