LEAD Loddon Murray is set to convene its first retreat of the 2024 Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program (LMCLP) in Maryborough from this weekend.
Focused on harnessing leadership potential and fostering community capacity, this retreat places a special emphasis on understanding regional context and the role of local leaders in driving progress.
The program, which has been a cornerstone of community leadership development in the Loddon Murray region for 25 years, will feature a lineup of esteemed locally based guest speakers, including Central Goldfields Shire mayor Liesbeth Long and CEO Lucy Roffey.
A highlight of the retreat will be a dinner and discussion panel with councillors tonight. Their insights and experiences will provide new perspectives on effective community leadership and navigating the unique challenges and opportunities within the region.
The generous support of the Central Goldfields Shire Council extends to the in-kind use of the Maryborough Community Hub as the location for learning activities on Friday and Saturday.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions, workshops, and discussions aimed at exploring key issues facing regional communities.
These include climate impacts, indigenous perspectives, and community health. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics shaping the Loddon Murray region and the role they can play in driving positive change.
Participants will also visit prominent community assets, led by Cr Long, an LMCLP graduate from 2022. The visits provide firsthand insights into the diverse array of initiatives and projects underway in Maryborough. These visits will serve as inspiration for attendees as they consider how to apply their newfound knowledge and skills to their own communities and through their developing community projects.
“The Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program is dedicated to empowering individuals to become effective leaders and catalysts for change within their communities,” program director Jude Hannah said.
“This year is the first time we’ve met in Maryborough and represents an exciting opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of the regional context and connect with local leaders who are driving innovation and progress.”
The LMCLP retreat in Maryborough is the first of five experiences participants will attend during 2024. The retreats foster collaboration, inspiration, and a renewed sense of purpose among participants.
The 2024 LMCLP is supported by the Foundation of Rural and Regional Renewal, through funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.
