The two 50-over games were held at Cricket Central Park, with McClure taking four wickets across both games.

Although he went at a high run-rate, McClure’s 2/74 last Friday saw him take the key wickets of Nic Maddinson and Ollie Davies, helping restrict New South Wales to 9/258 off their 50 overs, before Victoria chased down the target with three balls to spare and with three wickets in hand.

In the second game on Monday, Victoria set themselves up for a good contest when they were able to make 257, guided by Sam Harper’s 117. McClure was the only man unbeaten with three runs.

After a good early start saw New South Wales restricted to 3/18, a 141-run partnership looked to get the Blues back on track before McClure struck to get the key wicket of Jack Edwards, who had scored 70.

McClure then struck to remove Jack Nisbet for 16 late in the innings, finishing with 2/55 off nine overs as New South Wales fell 10 runs short.

Victoria’s season will kick off at the Citipower Centre in St Kilda when they take on Tasmania on Monday.
