Maryborough local Cam McClure made his return to the Victorian setup as they were defeated heavily by the Queensland Bulls.

n what appeared to be a good pitch for batting, McClure, and his Victorian teammates struggled to take advantage, with a Matt Short century their saving grace as they finished on 253 on Saturday.

McClure was unbeaten on four off 12 balls.

When it was Queensland’s turn to bat on day two on Sunday, the Bulls took advantage of the pitch and immediately took control of the game, with Matt Renshaw scoring 135 off 262, while Jack Clayton (109) and Michael Neser (90) also scored heavily as they finished 9/501 declared.

However, there were positives for McClure after grinding away, taking the wickets of Clayton, Jack Wildermuth and Gurinder Sandhu as he finished with Victoria’s best figures, taking 3/86 off 22 overs.

Unfortunately for Victoria, there was no way back into the contest, as Queensland left them skittled for 144 in the second innings, eventually losing by an innings and 104 runs.

McClure was out for a duck off two balls, and was the final wicket to fall.

Victoria were due to return to action on Thursday with a one-dayer against Queensland, while their Sheffield Shield return will be next Thursday when they host New South Wales.
