A number of Maryborough District Health Service staff have been recognised for their long service.

Recognising the achievements of its workforce, the Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) has given out awards to its employees for their contribution over the past 12 months — with a pair celebrated for completing four decades at the hospital.

Wrapping up the year on a high, MDHS recently hosted a staff celebration during which it presented Long Service Awards to 40 employees for their dedicated commitment for 10 years and more, and commended eight others with the health service’s GREAT People Award.

The ‘GREAT’ accolade, represents the organisation’s fundamental values — Genuine, Respect, Excellence, Accountability, and Togetherness — and is awarded to individuals who embody these principles.

“[It] recognises those champions who consistently live up to our values,” MDHS CEO Nickola Allan said.

“We received more than 120 nominations from staff right across the organisation to recognise excellent work across all areas of service including building and maintenance, hotel and hospitality services, home support, corporate support services, nursing, midwifery, allied health and leadership.

“The judging panel, including members of the executive team and board, had the tough task of selecting winners, based on key criteria [but] we are so thankful to have such an engaged team who are willing to support each other and pat each other on the back for a job well done.”

For the 40 employees that were honoured with the service awards — including registered nurse Sue Belcher and enrolled nurse Wendy Thatcher who have been with MDHS for four decades — Ms Allan said it was important to shine a light on the effort they have put in over many years to improve health outcomes in the region.

“We were so proud to acknowledge many people in our team who have worked with us for up to four decades,” she said.

“It shows incredible commitment and resilience of individuals to be dedicated to a single organisation with purpose over many years.

“We all know what a difference receiving great care can make to someone in a single day. Imagine the difference that individual team members have made over the decades in their area of expertise.”
