Meet the candidates standing this election
Find out who your candidates are and why they've entered the race.
Democracy means different things to different people.
For some it is the chance to have their say in shaping the future of their community.
For others, the promise of a sausage-in-bread lures them to the polling booth.
While postal voting means there are no sausages on offer, the upcoming council elections still give residents the chance to consider what local issues are important to them and their loved ones.
With 13 candidates and only seven wards in the shire, council elections this year promise to be an interesting race. Out of those vying for a seat — Grace La Vella of Maryborough West Ward and Tullaroop Ward’s Anna De Villiers — will be elected unopposed. Residents in the other shires will soon receive a ballot pack in the mail with instructions on how to vote for your preferred candidate.
Throughout the next month, The Advertiser will bring you comprehensive insight into each candidate.
To kick things off, we’ve put together brief introductions for the 13 aspirants — all of whom were asked to detail their reason for standing in their nominated ward.
