A thrilling seventh round of midweek pennant well and truly delivered, with three games decided by 10 shots or fewer.

The grand final rematch between Dunolly Blue and Highland Tartan was one of the closest games that will be seen this season, with Highland Tartan turning around their grand final loss to win by a solitary shot.

Two of the rinks were deadlocked, with Dennis Prosser and Gregory Dobbin finishing tied on 18, while Leanne Wallis and Alan Weir were tied on 20. It was Andrew Brumby’s 17-16 win over Tony Galofaro that made all the difference, as Highland Tartan returned to the top of the tree.

Talbot are just percentage behind, after negotiating a big challenge from Maryborough Golf to win in a high-scoring affair, 72-63.

Matt Vernon’s 23-19 win over Kort Gay was an ideal start for Talbot, but Golf hit back in rink two with Harold Patullo taking a 26-24 win over Barb Crossley. But Talbot’s rink three performance, with Ray Prentice defeating Liz Bucknall 25-18, allowed them to hold sway.

Avoca kept in touch with the top four with a 61-51 win over an improved Carisbrook.

Brook are playing with more confidence after securing their first win of the season, but Avoca held sway on all three rinks.

Ann Loosmore defeated Leonie Briggs 19-18, while Loralee Field defeated Phillip Burt 20-15. Allyson Hearnden finished off the job with a 22-18 win over Denise Matic.

Dunolly Gold took their first win of the season and moved off the bottom of the ladder at Newstead’s expense, winning 65-42.

Barry Cann had a terrific performance on rink one, defeating Brian Daly 28-11, while Jim Haigh also scored a win on rink three, defeating Mark Leckey 23-15. Newstead took two competition points back courtesy of Graeme Lipback’s 16-14 win over Fabio Delconte.

Round eight is headlined by the top of the table showdown between Highland Tartan and Talbot, with the winner set to assume top spot on the ladder. Both teams are currently undefeated, and with the way the season is panning out, expect this one to go right down to the wire.

Maryborough Golf will look to bounce back and keep in touch with the top three when they play Dunolly Gold, while Avoca will be hoping to keep themselves in the frame for a finals appearance when they travel to Newstead.

Carisbrook and Highland Gold round out the fixture with a clash at Carisbrook, while Dunolly Blue will have the bye.
