Natte Yallock Cricket Club goes into recess for 2024/25
The Natte Yallock Cricket Club (NYCC) has been forced into recess for the 2024/25 Maryborough District Cricket Association (MDCA) season, citing a number of reasons for its withdrawal from the A reserve competition.
In a letter addressed to the MDCA executive on Wednesday night, following their annual general meeting on Tuesday night, Natte Yallock secretary and treasurer Trent Mortlock outlined the reasons the club couldn’t continue on for the time being after celebrating their 50th anniversary as a club last year.
“A lack of numbers across the previous two seasons, as well as other issues that were out of the NYCC’s control all played factors in the decision. As a farming community, summer sports and farming harvest collide head on. Mixed with the Natte Bealiba Football Netball Club’s (NBFNC) commitments extending to almost 12 months, there is no down time for a majority of our players, members and executive,” the statement read.
“We are concerned for our players’ welfare as well as the executive’s “burnout” from what is a constant battle of trying to get together a team every week.”
The club will look to continue to hold some social events in an effort to remain connected in some way.
“The club is still looking to hold social events, even a couple of matches between the NYCC and NBFNC to continually get the club and community together,” the statement reads.
“Unfortunately, this is something that the NYCC has been facing for numerous years but couldn’t sustain anymore.”
After finishing fourth in season 2023/24, Natte Yallock were out in the first week of the A reserve finals, losing to Talbot by 140 runs.
