Navarre’s 11-game losing streak is over after taking a 32-goal victory over Campbells Creek at Campbells Creek Recreation Reserve.

The result for the Hoppers means that Campbells Creek will likely take a second consecutive wooden spoon.

The Hoppers got off to a bright start, generating plenty of chances in front of goal, which allowed them to take a 16-8 lead at the first change. Mollie Simpson took advantage by scoring 14 of the Hoppers’ goals, while Sadie Reading added two, and for Campbells Creek, Lillie Wrigley scored all eight of their goals.

Navarre continued to dictate the pace of play as their midcourt helped generate plenty of scoring shots for the Hoppers’ goalscorers, while Campbells Creek were keeping in touch by making the most of their opportunities. In the end, the Hoppers would score 14 goals to 10 to lead 30-18 at the main break. Simpson scored eight goals and Reading six for Navarre, while for Creek, Wrigley scored nine goals and Molly Kennedy one.

Navarre broke the resistance of Campbells Creek in the third quarter as they snuffed out any chance the Magpies had of getting back into the game, scoring 18 goals to seven as they dominated across the court. Simpson scored 14 goals and Reading four for Navarre, while for Creek, Wrigley scored four times and Kennedy three.

The last quarter saw both teams enjoy their best offensive quarter of the afternoon as the game well and truly opened up, with the Hoppers scoring 21 times and the Magpies scoring on 12 occasions.

Simpson finished off a productive day in front of goal with 15 goals for a total of 51, while Reading finished with six goals to end up on 18 for the day for the Hoppers. For Campbells Creek, Wrigley scored 11 goals to finish on 32 goals, while Kennedy added one goal.

The Hoppers will complete their season next week against Avoca, while Campbells Creek will play Newstead.
