Navarre had to fight off a challenge from Talbot on Saturday as they defeated the Hawks by 17 points.

Hoppers star forward Cody Driscoll was on fire, kicking eight goals in the win. Driscoll had the first three goals of the game, kicking truly in the first seven minutes of the opening term, and Billy Driscoll chimed in for one a couple of minutes later to give the Hoppers a 24-point lead halfway through the term.

Matty Bond kicked two goals in succession for Talbot, with the second goal coming from a piece of smart play from Tom Addison, who punched the ball twenty metres into the path of Bond, who kicked truly to reduce the margin to 12 points, but Billy kicked his second goal for the Hoppers to lead at quarter time by 20 points.

The Grasshoppers again opened up quickly with goals to Cody and Billy with Billy’s goal coming from an incredible snapshot form the boundary, however Talbot answered both goals from Adam Scott and Jayson Atkins. The remainder of the term was goal for goal and Adam Scott goaled again just as the siren blew to give the Hawks some impetus at half time.

Talbot threw out the challenge when they slotted the first two goals of the second half through Trent Barras and Scott, but after 10 minutes of back and forth play with no scoring, Cody kicked his sixth goal of the game and Brady Tillig slotted a goal after marking a pass from Billy.

Navarre performed a couple of undisciplined acts which resulted in downfield free kicks and goals to Talbot late in the term, as the Hawks reduced the margin to 17 points at the final change.

Jude McGuire roved the pack and goaled for the Hawks early in the final term and the margin was just 11 points, but Cody proved it was his day by kicking two goals to take his tally to eight for the day to eventually record their win.

Cody, with his eight goals, was the star of the show, alongside Bill Parry, Bill, Trent Driscoll. Louis Hannett and David Kirtley.

Talbot named their better players as McGuire, Atkins, Scott, Addison, Barras and Sam Hitchings, with four goals to Scott the highlight of their day.
