One of High Street’s many eateries has changed hands, as the new owners of Burgz look to build on what’s already made the business a local success.

Maryborough solicitor Margret Bownds took over the business just a few weeks ago and said the business is an opportunity to deliver the quality food locals expect, while bringing something new to the community.

“It is exciting for us, it’s something new and we’re learning as we go but we don’t want to change too much — the reason we got into Burgz is because we liked what it was to start with,” she said.

“We’ve brought in some smaller changes but we do plan to introduce kebabs which we think will go really well.

“We’re also really eager to add to the nightlife here in town because at the moment there isn’t much and it’s something we feel the town needs.”

Ms Bownds, who’s been a solicitor for over 20 years, said taking over Burgz was a case of being at the right place at the right time.

“I’ve been in business in this town for quite a few years but something like this was never on the agenda for me,” she said.

“My daughter Rosie has shown she has such an aptitude for managing business, she’s very good at it.

“We got talking about the possibility of setting up a food truck or weekend van and when Burgz came up for sale, everything just fell into place.”

Ms Bownds said Burgz is a family owned and operated business which in turn caters for families.

“We’re a family oriented business and we’re keen to get in and have a go, the business is designed for families,” she said.

“We offer a really funky environment where people can come and play pool or darts, they can have a cocktail and just catch up.

“We just want to see people come here and have fun, that’s what we want to encourage.”

Located at 190 High Street, Maryborough, Burgz is open from 10 am until 10 pm each day.
