Go Goldfields is relaunching its family based space, The Nest, in its new home today, providing a better space for families to gather and share information.

The Nest will now be located at the Maryborough Resource Centre — formally the Visitor Information Centre — and is a designated place for pregnant or current mothers, fathers, carers and their children.

At The Nest, families can gather information, learn skills surrounding behaviour, emotions, play, listening and clear communication, methods of discipline and information on labels and praise.

It’s also a space where families are able to breastfeed, change nappies, warm baby bottles and meals, receive help with registering for kindergarten, and a range of activities and groups.

Go Goldfields manager Carolyn Bartholomeusz said The Nest was something the community were asking for and is looking forward to what it will bring in its new home.

“Over COVID we got to evaluate the process of creating The Nest,” she said.

“We got to hear what parents had to say and there has been an overwhelming demand for a neutral space for people to come together, as well as practitioners, to provide information for parents.

“I’m excited for the opportunity for parents coming to share and learn from one another in a comfortable environment.

“It’s been in the works for two to three years now, evolving over time.

“It’s just getting bigger and better.”

The Nest’s re-launch is being kick started with a free nine-week program, Being a Parent, aimed at parents and carers for children aged two to 11 years old.

The program will be led by local parents and will allow families to share and learn practical communication skills for everyday life to bring up happy and confident children.

The program will run from July 13 from 12.30 to 2.30 pm.

The sessions will include free childcare, with bookings needed.

If you are interested in attending the program but are unable to due to lack of accessibly, transport can be provided.

For The Nest’s official reopening today, from 10 am to 2 pm there will be a morning tea, supported playgroups with activities for parents, on the spot kinder registration and Maryborough Toy Library memberships.

The Nest’s set times of service will be every Tuesday from 10 am to1 pm, Thursdays from 1 to 2.30 pm and Fridays 10 am to 1 pm.

The Nest is now located next to the Maryborough Regional Library on the corner of Alma and Nolan streets.
