Newstead secured their first finals appearance in two seasons after clinching eighth spot with a 19-goal victory over Campbells Creek at Newstead Recreation Reserve.

The result means the Kangaroos will face Lexton next week at Princes Park, just as they did two seasons ago, while Campbells Creek were consigned to a second consecutive wooden spoon.

A spirited start saw Newstead score 14 goals to Campbells Creek’s 12 to lead by two goals at the first change. Tayla Gale scored eight goals and Bri Jury six for the Kangaroos, while Lillie Wrigley scored eight times and Molly Kennedy four times for the Magpies.

It was the second quarter which proved to be crucial for Newstead, scoring 15 goals to eight to allow them to take a nine-goal lead into the main break, leading 29-20. Jury was doing much of the damage, scoring nine goals, while Gale added six for the Kangaroos, while Wrigley and Kennedy scored four times apiece for Campbells Creek.

Newstead continued to build their lead as it appeared their spot in the finals would be secure, with a 13-goal to 10 quarter seeing the lead creep out to 12 goals, 42-30. Gale scored 11 goals, and Jury two for the Kangaroos, while Wrigley scored eight times and Kennedy twice for Campbells Creek.

The Kangaroos finished strongly ahead of their big clash with the Tigers next week, scoring 17 goals to 10 to take a comfortable win.

Gale scored 10 goals to finish with 35 for the afternoon, while Jury added seven to finish with 24 for the Kangaroos, while for the Magpies, Wrigley scored eight times to finish with 28 goals, with Kennedy adding two goals.
