Maryborough and Carisbrook will be bringing their season to an end over the next two weeks as both seek a confidence-boosting win to take into the 2024/25 season.
The Owls will be gutted not to get the chance to defend 152, having had Beaufort 3/27 at the close of the first day’s play two weeks ago.
However, in recent weeks, they have certainly been bowling better and giving themselves a platform to either chase down or defend a total.
They restricted Colts Phelans to 183 runs in round 13, before their good work to close the first day against Beaufort yielded three quick wickets.
How the Owls go against Carisbrook looms as an interesting one, particularly given the trend of Carisbrook taking time to warm into their two day games this season.
Brook will be hoping to rebound after a tough day in the field two weeks ago, with Laanecoorie Dunolly pouring 402 runs against them, and will be hoping to get themselves into a comfortable position with either the bat or the ball.
They’ll need to rectify their day one struggles, which has seen them make just 180 runs when batting on the first day of play this season, while conceding 798 runs with the bat.
However, Carisbrook certainly do have the players to make things work.
Dean Nalder will be one that will serve an important purpose, leading both the batting and the bowling for Carisbrook, scoring 454 runs and taking 14 wickets.
With the ball, Ritik Yadav will be called upon again to make the ball talk, and added three more wickets against Laane to make it 13 for the season.
It also looks set to be young talent time for both teams, with many of the young stars across the league taking to the field.
Jasper Trickey looks likely to take the bowling award for the Owls this season, having taken 12 wickets in what has been an outstanding campaign, while Lachie Condie has also impressed in his first year of crossing from Laane, taking eight wickets.
For Carisbrook, Cooper Mark has taken on a good workload, as has Atticus Cullinan, with the duo combining for nine wickets this season, and along with the likes of Elliot Cullinan and Sam Thomson, there’s plenty of great young talent who will get an opportunity across the next two weeks.
