Maryborough captain Coby Perry scored a richly-deserved interleague berth on the weekend, playing in the Bendigo Football Netball League’s (BFNL) first interleague game in five years in their 13-point loss to the Victorian Amateur Football Association on Saturday at Brighton’s Elsternwick Park.

Perry lapped up the opportunity to show his wares on the big stage, named in the back pocket, while Kya Lanfranchi was also considered for selection, but narrowly missed out.

The BFNL were unable to score the victory, going down by 13 points after trailing by as much as 38 during the third quarter.

With Perry playing out of position, he wasn’t named in the best players, with Golden Square’s Ricky Monti, Eaglehawk’s Charlie Langford and Sandhurst duo Cooper Smith and Cobi Maxted named as the BFNL’s best players.

Nevertheless, it was reward for effort for Perry, who has constantly risen to the challenge for Mary-borough this season, despite a testing time on the field for the Magpies.

Perry will return to the field on Saturday afternoon alongside his Maryborough teammates when the Magpies host Gisborne at Barker Oval Princes Park.
