As he prepares to embark on a 3249 kilometre journey to raise awareness for mental health next month, the bike of Maryborough resident Luke Baker has been stolen.
The bike was taken from the front verandah of a property on Burke Street, Maryborough on Tuesday, June 9 at around 9.30 pm.
The black and purple Giant Defy Advanced One Road Bike, valued at over $4000, was donated by Giant Bikes Australia for Mr Baker to use on his Pedalling for Hope journey.
“I was pretty devastated when it happened, I just picked up the bike less than two weeks ago,” Mr Baker said.
“It won’t affect the Pedaling for Hope journey, but it is really frustrating especially because it was being used for an important cause.
“If you see the bike, or have any information, please contact Maryborough Police.”
Local police said investigation inquiries remain ongoing and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with canvassing CCTV footage of the area at the time of the incident to come forward. No suspects have been identified as of yet.
The Pedalling for Hope campaign begins on Friday, August 16, with each kilometre symbolising the number of deaths from suicide in Australia in 2022.
Proceeds from the 26 day fundraiser from Albany, Western Australia to Bendigo will go to Lifeline Loddon Mallee, with nearly $3500 already raised.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Maryborough Police Station on 5460-3300.
