ROYAL PARK 0.2 (2) def by CARISBROOK 33.19 (217)
Hedges Oval was the venue for the opening game between Royal Park and Carisbrook where the Tigers were dismantled to the tune of 215 points.
A weakened Royal Park were unable to compete with the Redbacks, as they dominated in all facets of the game.
Carisbrook jumped out of the blocks to kick 10 goals in the opening term, while holding the Tigers scoreless.
It was a similar result in the remaining three quarters as the Redbacks averaged eight goals a term, and eventually had 52 shots on goal to Royal Park’s two shots which resulted in two minor scores.
Carisbrook’s key goalkickers Ash Munari and Tony Zelencich kicked 16 of the 33 goals between them when they both slotted eight goals apiece, with both passing multiple opportunities to goal off, while new recruits Brad Horsham, Thomas Gardam and Patrick Van der pol were among the better performers, alongside Munari, Zelencich and Zak Rinaldi.
With many of their better players missing, it was a difficult day for Bushy, but Lachlan Bates, playing-coach Mark Ashmore, Rhys Egan, Jack Broad, Samuel Ploeger and Riley Govan were named as their best players and gave their all for the entire game under much duress.
