It was heartbreak for both Carisbrook Lady Redback sides on Sunday, with both their under 18s and under 14s unable to convert competitive games into a victory.
A hard charging under 18s side had their best chance of a victory against Ballarat Swans, but fell short by just four points.
A low-scoring opening quarter saw just one behind kicked, but the game opened up enormously in the second quarter, with both teams kicking two goals each, with both locked on 2.2 (14) at half time.
The Swans made their biggest move in the third quarter, kicking two goals while rendering the Lady Redbacks scoreless to open up a 15-point lead at the final change.
The Lady Redbacks came home strongly, kicking two goals to one point from the Swans, but they were unable to prevent them from holding on, going down 4.2 (26) to 4.6 (30).
Olivia Butler, Tara Kennedy, Mary Fitzgibbon, Zeanna Cassells, Maddison Anderson and Tahlia Anderson were named among the best players, while goalkickers included Emme Johnson, both Anderson sisters and Butler.
It was a similar story for the under 14 Lady Redbacks, who ran out of steam in the final quarter to concede three goals, eventually going down by 24 points.
A scrappy first three quarters saw just two goals scored, both through East Point in the first and third quarters, as they opened up a 12-point lead by the final change.
However, despite hitting back on the scoreboard with a final quarter goal, East Point proved too strong with their three goals to take the victory.
Ella Crofts was the sole goalkicker for the Lady Redbacks, who were served well by Tahlia Jordan, Imogen Raats, Memphis Hoober, Crofts, Tamika Loone-Grundy and Sienna Mark.
Both Carisbrook Lady Redbacks teams now look ahead to meetings with North Ballarat this week, a tricky task considering their under 18s side sits in second and their under 14s are on top of the table.
